Dave Thomas joined the Keystone Oaks School District in July of 2017 as the principal of Fred L. Aiken Elementary School. Mr. Thomas has worked with his faculty to establish a school-wide positive behavior plan where students earn “Eagles Eggs” to place in “Aiken’s Green Tree” to work towards a school-wide reward. Mr. Thomas views the Green Tree community as a TEAM and the ideal that
“Together Everyone Achieves More” is his philosophy for the Aiken students and their families, as well as the faculty and staff.
In 2018, Mr. Thomas was selected to participate in the School Retool cohort at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit with other school leaders in the region.
Prior to joining the Keystone Oaks administrative team, he became the Assistant Middle School/High School Principal at Avonworth School District in the 2016-2017 school year. Prior to becoming a principal, he spent nine years as a teacher and coach in the same school district. During his tenure as a teacher at Avonworth, Mr. Thomas taught 4th grade, and served on the district’s
strategic planning and technology committees. At the secondary level as an administrator, he was instrumental in rolling out a 1:1 technology program and also worked as a team member with the Student Assistance Program.
Mr. Thomas earned his Masters of Arts in Teaching Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Pittsburgh and also completed Robert Morris University’s RMU-LEAD Principal Certification Program.
