2024-2025 Back-to-School

Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year!

Mark your calendar! The first day of school for students is Thursday, August 22, 2024. 

Please note the following schedule for kindergarten students: 
  • Thursday, August 22; Friday, August 23; Monday, August 26 - Kindergarten students will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. Students will eat lunch at school before being dismissed for the day. Transportation will be available for kindergarten students on these days. 
  • Tuesday, August 27 - Kindergarten Orientation, 9:30 a.m. Parents/guardians should attend orientation with their child at the building where their child will be attending school. Orientation is expected to last one hour and students will return home with their parents/guardians following orientation. 
  • Wednesday, August 28 - First full day of school for kindergarten students.

Back-to-School Events

Mark your calendars and plan to join us for the following back-to-school events: 

  • Keystone Oaks High School's 9th Grade & New Student Orientation: Wednesday, August 14, beginning at 9 a.m. Students and parents/guardians are encouraged to attend. 
  • Keystone Oaks Middle School's 6th Grade & New Student Orientation: Thursday, August 15, beginning at 9 a.m. Students and parents/guardians are encouraged to attend. 
  • Elementary Back-to-School & Meet-the-Teacher Event: Tuesday, August 20, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Each building will hold its own event and all elementary students and families are invited to attend. 

2024-2025 School Year Calendar

Please make note of the following dates for the 2024-2025 academic year:

  • The first day of school for students is Thursday, August 22, 2024.

  • The final day of school is scheduled for Friday, June 6, 2025. 

  • Commencement for the Class of 2025 is slated for Thursday, June 5, 2025. Friday, June 6, 2025 will be used as a make-up date for commencement, in the event that the date would need to be changed due to unforeseen circumstances. 

Additionally, new for the 2024-2025 school year, Keystone Oaks’ academic calendar includes three two-hour delays for students. On these days, staff members will participate in professional development. The two-hour delays are scheduled for the following days:

  • Monday, October 14, 2024

  • Monday, March 10, 2025

  • Monday, May 5, 2025

August 2024 Breakfast & Lunch Menus; Food Service Department Updates

The breakfast and lunch menus for August 22 through August 30, 2024 are now available. This year's menus have a new look and are available in multiple formats:

  • The breakfast and lunch menus have been combined to include both selections on the same menu. There is one menu for the three elementary schools and one menu for Keystone Oaks Middle & High School. 

  • A downloadable menu is available on the District's website.

  • Menus that can be translated into a language other than English, are accessible for users that utilize assistive technology, and are more convenient to view on a mobile device are available at the links below:
  • Each week's selections will also be included in the Golden Eagle Update newsletters, which will be sent by the building principals each Sunday beginning on August 25, 2024.
Daily Alternate Selections
In addition to the main meal item listed on the menu, the following alternate selections are available daily:
  • Elementary Breakfast: Assorted Cereals and a Yogurt Parfait
  • Elementary Lunch: Yogurt parfait, chef salad, deli sandwiches, and peanut butter & jelly sandwich
  • Middle & High School Breakfast: Bagels, yogurt parfaits, toaster pastries, oatmeal bars, and cereal bars
  • Middle & High School Lunch: Chicken patty and spicy chicken patty sandwich, hamburger and cheeseburger, yogurt parfait, chef salad, deli sandwiches, peanut butter and jelly sandwich
Please note that items are subject to change and new items may be substituted occasionally.

Free Meals
One complete breakfast and lunch meal per school day will be free of charge for all Keystone Oaks students for the 2024-2025 school year. A complete meal must include the following: 
  • At least one of the following: fruit, vegetable, fruit juice
  • At least two of the following: protein, grain, milk
The following items are NOT eligible for the free meals program and students will be charged a la carte pricing for these items: 
  • Single food items, such as: one slice of pizza, a side of french fries, a cereal bar, etc.
  • A second meal; only one full meal per student per day will be free. Elementary students will be charged $1.75 for a second breakfast and $2.85 for a second lunch. Middle & High School students will be charged $1.85 for a second breakfast and $2.95 for a second lunch. 
  • Bottled water
  • Snack items, such as: ice cream, chips, sports drinks, etc. 
The Food Service Department will continue to serve unlimited fresh and canned fruits and fresh vegetables to students who receive or purchase a school lunch. 

SchoolCafe
The Food Service Department uses SchoolCafe to allow families to manage and view breakfast and lunch purchases and make online food service payments. Families should visit the SchoolCafe website to access their child's account. Families will need to enter their name, email address, phone number, student name(s), school(s) and student ID number, which can be found in PowerSchool.

The Food Service Department allows families to set restrictions on their child’s cafeteria account. Please contact the Food Service Department at 412-571-6017 if you would like to specify or limit items that your child can purchase at school or to discuss other issues. 

ParentSquare Communication Platform

The Keystone Oaks School District uses ParentSquare for school communication, primarily with email, text and app notifications. ParentSquare automatically generates an account for each parent, using their preferred email address and phone number. We encourage parents to access their accounts so they can download the mobile app and update their preferences on when and how they are notified. If you are no longer able to access the activation link that was sent via email, please reach out to Sarah Welch ([email protected]) via email. 


Here’s what you can do with ParentSquare:

  • Receive messages from the school via email, text or app notification 

  • Choose to receive information as it comes or all at once with a daily digest at 6 pm 

  • Communicate in your preferred language

  • Comment on school postings to engage with your school community

  • Sign up for parent-teacher conferences

  • Sign forms & permission slips, sign up to volunteer and more all from your desktop or mobile device


ParentSquare will be utilized by district administrators, parent organizations, classroom teachers, coaches, club and activity sponsors and others to: 

 

  • Send and receive school and class information that is specific to your child

  • Share pictures and files

  • Add calendar items

  • Request volunteers, supplies, and more

  • Schedule parent-teacher conferences

About PowerSchool

PowerSchool is the district's online student information system offering parents and guardians real-time access to grades, attendance, teacher comments and assignments, and other important information. PowerSchool can be accessed from a web browser or free app for iOS and Android devices.

School Schedules

The elementary schools will operate on the following schedule for the 2024-2025 school year:

  • Doors Open - 8:20 a.m.

  • Breakfast Served 8:20-8:30 a.m.

  • Homeroom – 8:30-8:45 a.m.

  • Students marked tardy - 8:40 a.m.

  • Instruction begins - 8:45 a.m.

  • Instruction ends - 3:15 p.m. 

  • Student Dismissal - 3:20 p.m.


Before and after school care is available at all three elementary schools through Extended Day Services, a private company. Information about their programs is available on their website - https://www.extendedday.com/keystone-oaks

Keystone Oaks Middle & High School will operate on the following schedule for the 2024-2025 school year:

  • Doors Open - 7:20 a.m. 
  • Breakfast Served - 7:20-7:40 a.m. 
  • Homeroom - 7:45 a.m.
  • Students marked tardy - 7:45 a.m.
  • First period - 7:54 a.m.
  • Student Dismissal - 2:36 p.m.
