Two Middle School students' plays to be produced as part of this year's Young Playwrights Festival

Eighth grade students Bella Bischof and Madelyn Koehler have been selected as winners in the 2023 Young Playwrights Contest and will have their plays produced by City Theatre as part of this year’s Young Playwrights Festival. Bella’s play, “Change is Challenging,” and Madelyn’s play, “Good Soup,” are two of the three middle school plays selected for professional production.

Throughout the 2022-2023 school year, students worked with 7th grade ELA teacher Ms. Kelly Connolly and Monica Stephenson, a teaching artist with City Theatre, to write a one-act play. Their submissions were selected from more than 250 plays written by students throughout western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia.

Bella and Madelyn helped to turn their scripts into stage productions in collaboration with professional theatre artists—a director, dramaturgs, designers, and actors. Middle School students will attend a matinee showing on Tuesday and the public is invited to two performances on Saturday, October 28 and Sunday, October 29.

Congratulations Bella and Madelyn!
