Keystone Oaks educator receives national Horace Mann Award for Teaching Excellence

The NEA Foundation has announced that Keystone Oaks High School math and computer science teacher Kevin Gallagher has been named a recipient of the Horace Mann Award for Teaching Excellence, one of the nation’s highest honors for public school educators. The award recognizes educators for their exceptional skill in the classroom, attention to equity and diversity, engagement of families and communities, commitment to ongoing professional development, and advocacy for the profession. Mr. Gallagher is one of five teachers from throughout the United States to receive this award.

“Mr. Gallagher is an exceptional educator and, in more than 25 years in the classroom, he has shown tremendous dedication to his students, their families, and his colleagues,” said Keystone Oaks Superintendent William Stropkaj. “Over the past several years, Mr. Gallagher has worked to bring computer science courses to Keystone Oaks High School and to ensure that these courses are accessible to every student who is interested in taking these classes. We are proud of his commitment to his own professional growth and development, as well as his commitment to providing new opportunities and experiences for Keystone Oaks students, “ Dr. Stropkaj added.

For more than 20 years, The NEA Foundation and Horace Mann have celebrated outstanding educators from around the country with this recognition. Each 2023 honoree will be featured in a mini-documentary video that will premiere at the NEA Foundation Salute to Excellence in Education Gala.

The NEA Foundation Salute to Excellence in Education and the Awards for Teaching Excellence are presented with support from NEA Member Benefits, Horace Mann Educators Foundation, California Casualty, Bank of America, American Fidelity, and First National Bank of Omaha.
