Health & Safety Plan Update: New Quarantine & Isolation Guidance

On Monday, December 27, 2021, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) released updated isolation and quarantine guidelines for individuals who test positive for COVID-19 or who are identified as a close contact to an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19. The Pennsylvania Department of Health has indicated that these guidelines apply to school districts and, in accordance with the District’s Health & Safety Plan, the following changes to the Health & Safety Plan will be in effect immediately:

Individuals who test positive for COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status:

  • Must isolate at home for five days.

  • After five days, if individuals are not experiencing any symptoms or if symptoms have resolved after five days, the positive individual may return to school or work. Individuals who continue to experience a fever after five days should continue to isolate until their fever resolves.

  • The positive individual should continue to wear a mask around others for an additional five days.

  • The day that symptoms begin is day 0, with day 1 beginning the following day.

Individuals who were exposed to an individual with COVID-19:

If you:

  • Have received a booster dose of a COVID-19 vaccine OR

  • Have completed the primary series of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine within the last 6 months OR

  • Completed the primary series of J&J vaccine within the last 2 months

Then:

  • You should wear a mask around others for 10 days.

  • You should be tested for COVID-19 on day 5, if possible.

  • If you develop symptoms, stay home and get a test.

If you:

  • Completed the primary series of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine over 6 months ago and are not boosted OR

  • Completed the primary series of J&J over 2 months ago and are not boosted OR

  • Are unvaccinated

Then:

  • You should stay home for 5 days. After that, continue to wear a mask around others for an additional 5 days.

  • You should be tested for COVID-19 on day 5, if possible.

  • If you develop symptoms, stay home and get a test.

  • The last day that you are exposed to the positive individual is day 0, with day 1 beginning the following day.

At this time, all other guidelines in the Keystone Oaks School District’s Health & Safety Plan, including universal masking while Allegheny County is in Substantial or High Level of Community Transmission, will continue to be in place.
