Board of School Directors approves updated Health & Safety Plan

The Keystone Oaks School District’s Board of School Directors approved the District’s updated Health & Safety Plan at their Business/Legislative Meeting on Tuesday, June 22, 2021.

The new plan is a requirement of the American Rescue Plan for school districts that are to receive funding under the ARP Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund. The plan addresses how the District will maintain the health and safety of students, educators and other staff and serves as local guidelines for all instructional and non-instructional school activities.

For the 2021-2022 school year, Keystone Oaks will offer two primary types of schooling: Traditional Schooling, with students participating through in-person classes five days per week; or, the Keystone Oaks Cyber Academy, with students participating in online instruction through the Pearson (elementary) or Edgenuity (secondary) platforms.

Remote instruction may be used for students who test positive for COVID-19,  who need to quarantine due to direct exposure to the virus, or for families who request periods of remote instruction as a result of the pandemic or other mutually agreed upon circumstances between families and District personnel.. Remote instruction may also be utilized temporarily in the event of a large number of COVID-19 cases or where a state or county order limits capacity in school buildings.

Additional highlights of the updated Health & Safety Plan include:

  • Masks & Face Coverings: The District will follow all guidelines and orders from the CDC, the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and the Allegheny County Health Department regarding the use of face coverings for students, staff and visitors. Anyone who wishes to wear a face covering is permitted to do so.

  • Vaccine Clinics: Vaccine clinics will continue to be held in collaboration with local health providers. Vaccinations will not be required to attend school, unless the District is required to make such a mandate per the orders from the PA Governor’s Office, the PA Department of Health, the PA Department of Education, and/or the Allegheny County Health Department.

  • Notification of positive cases: The District will work with the county and state health departments to determine when to notify staff and families of a possible case and to determine when isolated or quarantined individuals should return to school/work.

  • Water Fountains: Water fountains will continue to remain closed and students are encouraged to bring their own water.
