The Keystone Oaks girls volleyball team begin season with 2-1 record
The start of school means that it is volleyball season, and the girls are putting their heart into the game that they love. With players and coaches ready for the upcoming season, the girls are ready to win.
And that is just what they did last week. The team had a great start of the season with two wins over Northgate and South Allegheny.
“Our goal for the season is to make it into playoffs, and the whole team has decided that we want our year up on a banner in the gym because as of this year we do not have one,” junior Nicole Detorakis said.
The team as a whole have many goals for the upcoming season.
“I think that Serra Catholic is gonna be our biggest challenge this year. Last year we lost seven seniors and four of them were hitters. So, this year in order to win we need to work on our hits and our defense. If we play our hardest that is how we will win against Serra Catholic,” Detorakis said.
Sadly, Monday night the girls had fallen short of beating Serra Catholic, losing 3-0.
And with nine freshmen joining the team this year, the girls think that they have the chance to go to playoffs with the help of both coaches.
“The coaches help improve the team because they’re always very calm with us and don’t yell at us when we mess up. They are very encouraging and always have faith in us to win.” Freshmen Maria Fratangelo said about coaches Mike O’Leary and Dave Harouse.
With that encouragement, the girls beat Carlynton 3-1.
With still a tough season ahead of the Lady Golden Eagles, no matter the outcome, the girls will put in dedication and hard work.
