Keystone Oaks junior keeps ‘sticking the landing’
Tara Gologram competing at gymnastics eventThis year has been quite a winning one for Keystone Oaks, with the football team, girls volleyball, and even more going to playoffs! One of those teams that many students may not even know of is the gymnastics team. Tara Gologram, a junior at KO, has been doing gymnastics for thirteen years, and has carried the school successfully through various meets. She also is on the track team, and makes everyone proud by her triumphant season.
Gologram has bolstered the school to WPIALS through the gymnastics team, where she placed fourth on the vault, third on the beam, third on the floor, and third all-around. She also just went to the PIAA states meet, where she places first on the vault, third on the bars, fourth on the beam, second on the floor. What makes that meet even better is that she won first place overall. Winning first place overall is quite an honorable award, and all of the students at Keystone Oaks were so proud of her.
Gologram spends 20 hours a week in the gym, spending five days a week for four hours there, so no wonder she places so well in her meets. Dedication has been the key to doing as well as she has been, and working hard. Thirteen years ago, her mother saw her doing flips on the couch, and signed her up for gymnastics because she thought it would be fun. After all this time, Gologram has still stuck with it.
She has also been quite successful in track this year, as she had some experience in the 2016 spring season. Even though it is only her second year, she has won first in many areas. Those areas include the long jump, triple jump, and the 100-meter dash at just the South Hills Classic and the Big South Invitational. She also competed in the high jump, where she won first at South Hills Classic, and seventh at the Big South Invitational. She also went to the South Fayette Invitational, where she places third on the long jump, second in the triple jump, and fourth in the 100 meter dash. Her continuous winning has allowed her to qualify for WPIALs. She practices eight hours a week, which help contribute to helping her place well.
“I hope to make states as well. I am quite excited,” Gologram said.
Senior captain Selena Canello praises her fellow teammate, and spoke only in a positive manner when talking about Gologram.
“She’s like our secret weapon on the team. She really works hard for her goals,” Canello said.
The question stands of where she plans to take her career after high school. As Gologram’s senior year quickly approaches, she has been looking at the University of Oregon, Baylor University, and Gannon University for tumbling and acrobatics. For track, she has been speaking with Point Park University, Duquesne University, and Robert Morris University. Because of her equal love for both sports, it seems the decision will be quite a tough one.
The school is honored to have Gologram represent it in both sports, and hopes that her achievements will carry on next year. Her continuous efforts have put her name in the spotlight at Keystone Oaks, and will certainly become known outside of the district. It is no secret that next year will be even better, so her competitors should watch out for this very accomplished athlete.
