The KO Community Says Goodbye to Tom's Diner
Tom’s Diner on West Liberty Avenue, closed on October 6th, Keystone Oaks students and teachers had disappointed reactions.
“It was sad. It was a nice little place for families and friends to go.” Said Emily Schoedel, a ninth grader at Keystone Oaks.
Tom's Diner served Greek and American classics since 1986.
According to Twitter owner, owner John Petropoulus said, “After 40 years in business, it’s time to hang up the gyro knife and relax a little.”
Although Tom’s Diner is shutting its doors, but it won’t stay vacant for long. A Mike and Tony’s will be put in, the date for its opening is unknown.
“I love Mike and Tonys but I wish Tom’s didn’t have to close for it. But I'm pretty excited for it.” Said Shoedel.
On the day it closed everyone was able to go in and grab one last savouring bite from the old-school restaurant.
“The service was really good every time I went there. There was hardly ever a long wait for your food, all the staff was really friendly, and the food was just so great.” Said Joelle Laslo, a regular at the restaurant.
Tom’s Diner closed due to FDA violations.
The closing of Tom's Diner has definitely impacted people’s lives. Especially those who have significant memories at the Diner.
“My brother ,who lives in Washington D.C., visits Tom’s Diner everytime he comes back to Pittsburgh and he will be very disappointed to find out that the restaurant is no longer there.” Said Mrs. Kraemer, a senior English teacher at keystone oaks.
Tom’s Diner may be closing it will always be remembered by the local community.
