Ninth grade students tour the clubs provided in the high school
Freshman Rush: an age old tradition returns to the high school to welcome incoming freshmen and introduce them to the various clubs and activities offered in their new school.
Last week, freshmen students gathered in the auditorium to learn about the various clubs and activities offer, a tradition at Keystone Oaks called Freshman Rush.
Representatives from each club prepared a quick presentation or speech to display to the students and then afterwards, the students were able to sign up for the clubs.
Some of the more unknown clubs that were introduced last week included Robotics Club and the language clubs. In Robotics Club, you work with Mr. Magri to program, build, and then fight against other high school robots in the region.
Two languages are offered at Keystone Oaks and both Spanish and French classes have clubs that do not limit students on joining if they do not take those courses. French Club secretary and junior, Laura Funk spoke about the club;
"We go on many field trips, including a tour to the nationality rooms downtown and a gateway clipper cruise, and it's a great club to be with friends and meet new people," said French Club secretary and junior Laura Funk.
Don't let your fear of a foreign language stop you from having fun.
Alicia Lehman, spoke about the opportunity Freshman Rush gave her.
“I thought it was interesting and nice to know all of these clubs that are available.”
Lehman joined Allies Club, Adventure Club, and Best Friends Club.
It was “very productive and it ran smoothly. It was great,” according 9th graders Victoria Herzer and Gillian Piccolino.
Students took advantage of this one-on-one convenience with club members to sign up for any and all clubs they were interested; it seemed as if all students signed up for at least one more clubs, promoting a good sense of school participation and inclusion. The rise of students’ participation in clubs will lead to a better sense of school spirit in the district.
