Keystone Oaks Foundation for Educational Excellence awards $4,000 in grant funding to Keystone Oaks teachers

The Keystone Oaks Foundation for Educational Excellence has announced that four Keystone Oaks teachers have received more than $4,000 to support classroom projects this school year.

Myrtle Avenue Elementary School second grade teacher Mrs. Terry Twyman received a $600 grant to support culminating activities related to their new English Language Arts curriculum. Funding will be used to purchase books and other materials that will extend the learning, motivate the students, and help them better understand diverse cultures.

Keystone Oaks Middle School math teacher Mr. Pat Falsetti received a $600 grant to provide daily prizes for students who show mastery and growth in Spring Math, a program designed to help students feel more confident in math and to help recall facts quicker when solving more complex problems.

Keystone Oaks Middle School business teacher Mr. Andy Bell and family and consumer science teacher Mrs. Jessica Boronky received a $1,500 grant to support their restaurant collaboration project that will give students the opportunity to design and successfully run a restaurant for students, staff, and/or community members. Students enrolled in both classes will work together to develop a theme, target market, menu, pricing and budget, interior, and uniform for the restaurant. FCS students will prepare the food. BCIT students will develop a functioning website, logo, and slogan, including a commercial & merchandise.

Keystone Oaks High School family and consumer science teacher Mrs. Emily Brill and art teacher Mrs. Heather Hruby received a $1,325 grant to support a project called “But Make It Fashion!” The grant will provide funding for equipment and materials that will allow students to create their own textiles for use in projects. The goal is for students to create garments to showcase at the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America state competition and/or Runway Repurposed, a fashion show that gives students the opportunity to walk the runway in their own creations made of non-traditional materials.
