Halloween: A Holiday For Everyone

Halloween, October 31st, is just around the corner. Halloween is a holiday that can be celebrated by anyone, adults and kids alike. It’s a day filled with parties, friends, fun costumes, and all the candy anyone could desire.

Here at Keystone Oaks High School, the students spend Halloween in many different ways. Most of the student population attend parties, go trick or treating, hang out with friends, or an option preferred by many: have a quiet night in while handing out candy.

A lot of the students in the high school opt to spend Halloween hanging with friends or at parties, but they do reminisce about the days they used to go trick or treating. Many of which have favorite costumes they have seen or have been throughout the years. Some examples include the typical clowns, devils, and big inflatable dinosaurs, but others are more unique and modern, such as Hydro Flasks and Stranger Things characters.

Another big and frequent past time this Halloween season for students is visiting their favorite Haunted Houses in the area. The student’s top three favorites were: Hundred Acres Manor, Kennywood’s Phantom Fright Nights, and Scare House.

Hundred Acres Manor is a haunted house located in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. It features wagon rides, mazes, a buried alive experience, and escape rooms. Hundred Acres Manor’s biggest attraction though is its main haunted house, which showcases six different themes throughout it. Hundred Acres Manor is lowly priced which makes it easy and convenient for students to visit.

Freshman Sieona Steban had this happen to her at Hundred Acres Manor this past year, “I was just walking and someone came up behind me and almost chainsawed my hair off. I never saw who or what did it.”

Kennywood’s Fright Night is a fan favorite for students here at Keystone Oaks. Not only is it a must-go favorite here, but it has also been voted one of the best-haunted attractions in the country. At Fright Night the whole park turns into a creepy and scary Halloween Land. Visitors can walk around, ride different rides, and venture into the many haunted houses stationed throughout the park.

Jillian Reynolds, a sophomore, shared her experience from Fright Night.
“My friends and I were in one of the haunted houses at Kennywood. Everyone was tripping over each other and screaming, and we couldn’t see anything at all. It was a nine out of ten adventure. I loved it.”

Another haunted house mentioned by students was Scare House. Scare House is located in the Strip District in Pittsburgh. It’s currently closed at the moment, but will be up and running just in time for the 2020 Halloween season. Although some attractions such as the basement, require you to be eighteen, there are other attractions to visit. In the main haunted house, there is a creepy theme featured in each room. Each room contains new frights and realistic actors with great skills and scary makeup.

For those not interested in Haunted Houses or trick or treating this upcoming Halloween season, there is another option which several of the students partake in, having a nice and cozy night in the comfort of their own homes. These students enjoy watching Halloween movies and waiting for the numerous trick or treaters arriving at their door.

So if your too scared for the frights and not wanting to trick or treat this year, just curl up on your couch, put on a Halloween movie, and enjoy your favorite candies.
