Keystone Oaks Commencement & Senior Class Celebrations

The past several weeks have been filled with a number of changes and uncertainties that have impacted all of us in one way or another. This time has been especially difficult for the 142 students that are part of Keystone Oaks’ Class of 2020 and their families. Their senior year was cut short and they are missing out on the events and activities that make senior year so memorable. We are as heartbroken and as disappointed as they are to not be together as they transition from the comfort and familiarity of Keystone Oaks to beginning the next chapter of their young adult lives and pursuing their post-secondary plans.

Given Governor Wolf’s orders that Pennsylvania schools remain closed through the end of the 2019-2020 school year, and with the current stay-at-home order and social distancing guidelines still in place, we have developed alternate plans for the senior awards banquet, prom, and commencement. We have also created a few additional ways to recognize and celebrate this year’s senior class. Our hope is that we can all work together to honor our seniors, make their end-of-year events meaningful, and preserve as many Keystone Oaks traditions as possible.

A team of administrators, teachers, and students have worked together to make the following alternate plans for the events that were scheduled for this spring:

Junior-Senior Prom

The 2020 Junior-Senior Program has been rescheduled for Friday, July 10, 2020 at the Green Tree DoubleTree by Hilton. If prom cannot be held on this date, prom will be cancelled for this year.

Commencement for the Class of 2020

In the event that the stay-at-home order and social distancing guidelines are lifted prior to June 11, 2020, Keystone Oaks will hold commencement as previously scheduled. However, given that schools are closed for the remainder of the year, it is highly unlikely that graduation will be held on June 11.

In the event that commencement cannot be held on June 11, we have selected Wednesday, July 29, 2020 as the alternate date for commencement. If gatherings continue to be prohibited on this date, an in-person commencement ceremony will not be held this year.

Additionally, in lieu of commencement on June 11, we are working to create a tribute video for the Class of 2020 and are planning a live viewing of the video on June 11, 2020. Please look for additional details soon.

Senior Awards Banquet

The Senior Awards Banquet scheduled for Thursday, May 21 has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled. However, should there be an in-person commencement ceremony, students who have received an award or scholarship will be recognized during the commencement ceremony.

Recognizing & Celebrating Seniors

Starting on Monday, April 20, the Keystone Oaks School District will recognize the members of the senior class on the District’s social media channels. We also encourage families to decorate their front door, or another area of their home, with pictures and memorabilia of their senior. Please send us a photo of your decorated door to [email protected] or post it on social media using #KOProud and #KO2020.

Keystone Oaks staff members will distribute caps and gowns, yearbooks, and a “Keystone Oaks Class of 2020” yard sign to seniors as soon as they are received and organized, likely in mid- to late-May

We will also celebrate our seniors during “Keystone Oaks Senior Week” June 1 through June 5, 2020, with the following theme days:

  • Monday - What clubs and activities did you participate in at Keystone Oaks? Share a picture or two with some of your favorite memories!

  • Tuesday - Elementary School Days! What are some of your best memories from your elementary school days? Show us those awkward haircuts and outfits that mom insisted you wear!

  • Wednesday - Lights on for KO Seniors. We encourage everyone throughout the community to turn on their porch lights at 8 p.m. to show our support and love for the Class of 2020!

  • Thursday - Throwback Thursday / Favorite KO Memory Day

  • Friday - #KOProud! Tell us something that makes you proud to have graduated from Keystone Oaks

As the circumstances surrounding COVID-19 continue to evolve, we will be sending more specific details regarding these events as the dates approach. We appreciate your continued support and patience as we work together to develop a plan that will (hopefully) allow us to hold our traditional end-of-year events, albeit later than we originally planned for.
