1:1 Chromebook Initiative

About the 1:1 Chromebook Initiative

To start the 2020-2021 school year, the Keystone Oaks School District will be implementing a 1:1 Chromebook Program at both Keystone Oaks Middle School and Keystone Oaks High School. This means that every student will receive a Chromebook device that they will keep with them for the entire school year and can use both during school and at home. We are very excited about this initiative and the opportunities that we will now have to personalize learning through the enhanced use of technology. Please see below for more details regarding the program.

Chromebook Handbook for Students & Guardians

Every Middle & High School student and their parent/guardian must agree to abide by the rules and guidelines outlined in the Chromebook Program Handbook. You can sign off on the Chromebook Program Handbook when you purchase the protection plan or forms will be available when devices are distributed in August. You can view the Chromebook Program Handbook by clicking here.

One2One Device Protection

The Keystone Oaks School District is partnering with One2One Risk Solutions to provide accident and loss protection for student Chromebook Devices. By registering with One2One and purchasing a damage waiver, your student will be protected from the full cost to repair or replace a device. While purchasing device protection is not mandatory, it is highly recommended as the cost to replace a new Chromebook is $335.

The cost to purchase the Protection Plan is $20 per student device. The deductibles are as follows:
  • First Incident - $0
  • Second Incident - $10
  • Third Incident - $25
  • Lost or stolen device - $100

If you choose to not participate in the program, a parent or guardian will be responsible for the full cost of the device, which is $335.

Chromebook Program FAQs

Can students opt-out of the Device Protection Program?
Yes, students do not need to purchase the One2One Device Protection Insurance in order to receive a Chromebook. However, parents/guardians should know that they will be responsible for the full cost of the device should it break or become lost or stolen. The cost to replace a new Chromebook is $335.

What privacy and security protections does the District have in place?
Keystone Oaks utilizes Google's administration console, along with GoGuardian and Classlink to provide IT security and privacy, among other services. Our domain is verified with Google and only those with a @kosd.org account can log in to a Chromebook.

Will elementary school students be receiving a Chromebook for the 2020-2021 school year?
Yes. Elementary students will be getting a Chromebook for the 2020-2021 school year. The new Chromebooks for elementary students haven’t arrived yet, so elementary students will most likely start the year with a device that is one or two years old. Therefore, families do not have to purchase device protection for these devices. When the new devices arrive and are ready to be distributed, families will be able to purchase device protection for elementary students.
