Keystone Oaks High School Senior Jaylen Hoffman Awarded KDKA Extra Effort Award
Pittsburgh personality Bob Pompeani arrived at Keystone Oaks High School on January 8, 2019, to award senior Jaylen Hoffman the Extra Effort Award for her outstanding athletic and academic achievement during a school assembly at the end of the day.

The Extra Effort Award, KDKA TV's way of giving back to students in the city of Pittsburgh, helps those who succeed in academics and athletics to achieve great things in secondary education. Hoffman, captain of the girls' varsity basketball team and a leader of her class, received 200 dollars towards her future education at John Carroll University where she recently signed to play NCAA Division 3 basketball. Along with her 4.3 GPA, what convinced Bob Pompeani and KDKA TV to award Hoffman was her outstanding 180 hours of community service. In her award speech, Hoffman thanks Ms. Tom for nominating her for the award as well as all the support she received from her teachers. “To be considered for the extra effort award was an incredible honor and privilege,” Hoffman commented. “It was a really neat experience to be recognized for all my hard work and something I’ll definitely never forget."

The girls' varsity basketball team is 10-5 overall and third in the WPIAL 4A 2 Conference, trailing Blackhawk and Central Valley who are currently leading the section.
