Keystone Oaks recognizes three graduates with Alumni Achievement Award
Dormont High School graduate Muriel Moreland and Keystone Oaks High School graduates Jeff Wilke and William Henk have been selected as the recipients of the 2019 Alumni Achievement Award.

Ms. Muriel Moreland, a 1946 graduate of Dormont High School, taught English at Hillsdale Grade School and Jay Neff Middle School in the Dormont and Keystone Oaks School Districts for 30 years. In 1999, she voluntarily founded the Dormont Historical Society, where she still serves as President. As President of the Dormont Historical Society, Ms. Moreland is responsible for promoting and preserving the community’s history and records. She created and has maintained the museum, its program, and activities. She has also volunteered at the Dormont Public Library, planning programs and displays in conjunction with the Dormont Historical Society. 

A 1970 graduate of Keystone Oaks High School, Dr. Henk has served as Dean of the College of Education and Professor of Literacy at Marquette University since 2004. Previously he chaired the department of curriculum and instruction at Southern Illinois University of Carbondale, and for 18 years prior to that appointment, he worked in various capacities at Penn State Harrisburg. Dr. Henk specializes in reading and language studies and has earned a national reputation for his work in assessing reader and writer self-perceptions and for the development of classroom literacy observation instruments. He has published and presented his work extensively and has served on several premier editorial review boards and in various leadership roles in national literacy organizations. In recent years, his scholarship has focused on various aspects of the education deanship and that work earned him and his co-authors the 2018 Neuner Award for Excellence in the Professional/Scholarly Publication from the American Association of University Administrators. 

The Association of Literacy Educators and Researchers recognized Henk with its service award in 2003 and with a lifetime achievement award in 2004. At Penn State Harrisburg, he received institutional awards for both teaching and research, and he was named as an outstanding alumnus of Edinboro University in 2000. 

Mr. Jeff Wilke, a 1985 graduate of Keystone Oaks High School, is the CEO of Worldwide Consumer for Amazon, a position he has held for three years. Prior to that, Mr. Wilke served as a Senior Vice President for Amazon’s Consumer Business, North American Retail, and Worldwide Operations divisions. He first joined Amazon.com as Vice President and General Manager, Operations, in 1999. Mr. Wilke earned his MBA and MS in Chemical Engineering from MIT’s Leaders for Global Operations program. He also hold a BSE degree in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University. 

“It is an honor to be able to recognize the accomplishments of these graduates and commend them for the pride that they bring to the Keystone Oaks School District,” said Dr. William Stropkaj, Superintendent for the Keystone Oaks School District. “Their personal and professional accomplishments are truly remarkable and will undoubtedly serve as a source of inspiration for the class of 2019 and for all Keystone Oaks students.”
