Information regarding the Municipality of Mt. Lebanon’s requests related to a new indoor rifle facility
In September, the Municipality of Mt. Lebanon sent a letter to Keystone Oaks School District regarding a new indoor shooting range that will be constructed on the Mt. Lebanon Golf Course on Pine Avenue, near Myrtle Avenue Elementary School.

The facility will mostly be used for law enforcement training exercises, which is approved by federal law. The Municipality of Mt. Lebanon has also asked that the Mt. Lebanon High School Rifle Team be permitted to use the facility and also that the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Department be permitted to use the facility for firearm safety courses for members of the general public.

The Keystone Oaks Board of School Directors must vote on whether to permit the latter two uses because the facility will be located within 1,000 feet of Myrtle Elementary School; and therefore, the other two usages do not meet the requirements of the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990.

Attached below are two letters from the Municipality of Mt. Lebanon with more information about the facility and some answers to frequently asked questions.

The Keystone Oaks Board of School Directors expects to vote on these requests at the December 12, 2017, Business/Legislative Meeting.
