KO students take to the stage for a local production
"Hair" the musical imageStudents from Keystone Oaks are participating in an exciting new local production of Hair for Pittsburgh Musical Theatre (PMT).
The musical is set in the era of the Hippy Movement and Vietnam War to give a powerful story and message about life. Directed by Quinn Patrick Shannon, the director has a deep understanding and love for the show.
“Hair is special, because it showcases youth. At the same time it tells a devastating story about the late ‘60s and how divided our country was. There’s not a lot of a story, and that's because the people who were workshopping the production in the late ‘60s were actual hippies. These were people who believed all the words they were saying in the show, and that's what made it so special to them. Audiences responded well to it because they were curious, and that the Hippy Movement was one of those major movements that literally changed the world, and where young people spoke out against injustices. That's what makes Hair special and why it is still done.”
Two Keystone Oaks students are involved with this production, Senior Richard Magyan and Freshman Jeramie Welch. Richard plays the principal role of Woof, and Jeramie is a featured ensemble member.
Hair runs from May 18th - 21st, with all shows starting at 7:30pm in the Gargaro Theatre at PMT (327 S Main St, Pittsburgh, PA 15220.) To find more information about tickets, directions and PMT itself go to their website https://pittsburghmusicals.com.
