Principal Mr. Jeff Kattan Welcomes Students & Families to Keystone Oaks Middle School
Dear KOMS Students and Parents/Guardians:

The KOMS Faculty and Staff hopes that you had a wonderful summer vacation, filled with fun and time to relax. We look forward to your arrival at KOMS within the next few weeks. We have added a number of new staff to the middle school over the summer and look forward to their addition to the KOMS Family. Below is information that will be helpful to you in planning for the start of the school year.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL - The first day of school is Thursday, August 24. When arriving to school report to either the cafeteria for breakfast or to the gym (located on the second floor near the office). You will be dismissed to homeroom at 7:40 A.M. You should be in the school building by 7:40 to ensure that you are not tardy for school.

SCHEDULES – Your tentative schedule for the 2017-2018 school year can be accessed through your PowerSchool account. Check your schedule to make sure you know what homeroom to report to on the first day. Updated schedules will be provided during the homeroom period on the first day of school.

6TH GRADE AND NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION – Our orientation this year is on August 21, 2017. This is for all 6th grade students and any new students to the District. The program will start at 8:00 AM in the LGI. A bus schedule for those students living in Castle Shannon and Green Tree is included with this mailing. The program is designed for students to see their classrooms and also their teachers. Parents that attend will be able to wait for their child in the middle school cafeteria. The program will conclude at approximately 10:30 AM, and bus students will be dropped off at the same stop they were picked up.

GUIDANCE NEWS – We are happy to announce that Ms. Lauren Harvilla is our new School Counselor. We look forward to Ms. Harvilla taking on this very important role within the middle school. She will be sharing news and information with all of you at the beginning of the school year.

STUDENT HANDBOOK AND CODE OF CONDUCT – The Student Handbook and Code of Conduct is on the school website, www.kosd.org. A copy will also be provided via PowerMessenger within the next week or two. If we do not have an email address for you on file, a hardcopy will be provided on the first day of school to your child. Enclosed with this letter is a Parent and Student Verification form. Once you and your son/daughter have reviewed the document, please sign the form and return to your child’s homeroom teacher. This form will need to be signed and returned by the end of the first week of school. If it is not returned, your son or daughter may not be able to participate in extracurricular activities until it is returned. A signed form is acknowledgement that you are aware of the school district policies and procedures.

POWERSCHOOL – Username and passwords will be the same as you established last year. You will find the link to this system on the district’s home page www.kosd.org .

We hope that you enjoy the rest of your summer vacation and we look forward to welcoming you to the 2017-2018 School Year! It will be your best year yet.

Sincerely,
Mr. Jeffrey Kattan
