KO boys’ basketball takes a positive look at a disappointing season
The Keystone Oaks boys basketball team ended this season with a losing record, but the team tries to stay positive.
They haven’t had the best luck this year with their pairings but had to adjust to the long bus rides. Coach Dan Elzer has coached for several years and had lost three of his starting five last year. Working with more of a younger team will work to his advantage in the long run.
Senior forward Jake Mellon said they work a lot harder in practice this year and do a lot more running and drills.
“Our shooting percentage increased a lot and we shoot better. Our team points went up and we score more this year,” stated Mellon.
Coming into this season, Mellon expected to improve from last year, get everyone involved, and make playoffs. Unfortunately, they did not make playoffs, but they worked hard everyday and did improve themselves. Mellon said he loves to be with his team, and they bonded so much they are like a family.
He also lead the team this year with an average of 20 points a game. He was a great outside shooter. Although being dependent on his seniors, Elzer will return next year with three junior starters, Ryan Collins, Josh Snell, and Vonte Mitchell. Elzer has help with coaching the boys with assistants Justin Piot and Lorenzo Archer. With the season ending, they will soon begin to work again all off season to reach their goals of playoffs.
