Getting in the spirit: the Homecoming bonfire gets KO fired up
With the much anticipated October 10th Homecoming dance this past weekend, the Keystone Oaks Pep Club was kind enough to organize a district-wide bonfire on Thursday, October 8th. The bonfire took place at the baseball field behind Green Tree Elementary, where the school’s spirited club had set up refreshments such as hot chocolate, apple cider, and pizza as well as music provided by a live DJ, adding a lively touch to the night.
In addition to the food and music, the night opened with a routine by the JV and Varsity Cheerleaders, followed by games such as sack races between the different classes, where it was decided by a panel of judges (the younger siblings of students). The senior girls dominated senior boys, and the cheerleaders outraced the football team.
Besides being what senior Kateryna Kocelko called, “a great bonding atmosphere for friends, family, and classmates,” the bonfire was also an opportunity for this year’s Homecoming Court to get to know underclassmen and campaign for votes. The court consisted of seniors Leo Palmer, Richard Novak, Joey Kazalas, Dylan Procopio, Sal Cimino, Sarah Reilly, Laura Poliziani, Alexa Valforte, Ashley Ferarri, and Katie Lehman, who were introduced by the DJ later in the night, announcing their extracurricular involvements, future plans, and out-of-school activities. Novak could even be seen handing out complimentary lollipops in the hopes of garnering supporters.
Overall, as Pep Club President Kylie McCullough stated, “The night went really well, and it was nice to students as well as their families get together and create such a warm environment,” an environment that mimics the feeling of togetherness ignited in the next night’s Homecoming football game, and ultimately the Saturday night dance.
