Social media takeover
In the 21st century social media is all around us. As technology evolves, so do apps to go on phones, and updates of the current apps we have. Social media has taken over millennials lives, but is that a good thing or bad thing? As a teenager, I use social media, but when parents complain about our use of social media, I do understand where they are coming from.
Social media is a huge part of teenagers’ lives. If a teenager doesn't go on social media for a certain amount of time, they feel disconnected from the world. Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, etc. are all great examples of teens’ constant use of social media. Teenagers are so reliant on social media some are losing the skill to socialize. Teens are being affected not only in the social aspect but also educationally. Teenagers are spending so much time on social media they are not doing homework and their test grades are dropping.
Social media also always carries the unsafe aspect. Snapchat, for example, has snapmaps, which updates to your exact location anytime you go on the app. Also, Instagram has an active feature that shows when you are active on the app. If someone dangerous gets ahold of these features, people could be in a lot of danger.
Social Media can also have its good traits. It is a great platform to share things like spreading awareness for certain ideas or movements, or sharing a gofundme for a family or cause. It also can be a great way to keep in touch with people you haven’t seen in a while.
Social media has both bad and good aspects, but if used the wrong way or used with the wrong people, it can be dangerous. If you use social media, use safety precautions beforehand.
