This week, High School Computer Science Teacher Kevin Gallagher was invited to participate in Code.org’s Computer Science Education Week kick-off event at San Mateo College, near San Francisco, California.

He also heard from four female leaders in the technology, including Facebook’s Sherly Sandberg, Microsoft’s Kate Johnson, YouTube’s Susan Wojcicki, and Melinda Gates, co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, as well as Gavin Newsom, California’s Lieutenant Governor, about the importance of diversity in computer science education, especially for female students who are underrepresented in technology and computer science careers.

The event was sponsored by Microsoft, Amazon, InfoSys Foundation, Google, Facebook, and the Omidyan Network.

Mr. Gallagher has been participating in Code.org’s Computer Science Principles Professional Learning Program and is instructing both Computer Science Discoveries and AP Computer Science Principles, which are new to Keystone Oaks for 2017-2018.
