The Board of School Directors appointed Mr. Scott Mizikar to the position of Interim Principal at Myrtle Avenue Elementary School, effective May 1, 2017. Mr. Mizikar is currently a fourth grade teacher at Dormont Elementary School. He will spend the last month of the school year working with Mrs. Karen Brown, who has served as the interim principal throughout the 2016-2017 school year, to ensure a smooth transition into the position.

Mr. Mizikar has worked for the Keystone Oaks School District since 2001 and has taught seventh grade geography, eighth grade history, and also spent one year as the Dean of Students. He has taught fourth grade at Dormont Elementary for 11 years.

"I am confident that Mr. Mizikar will be an asset to Myrtle Elementary School during Mr. Arcuri’s absence and that he will work closely with the professional staff at Myrtle Elementary to continue to provide a supportive, safe, and nurturing educational environment for all students at Myrtle," Keystone Oaks Superintendent Dr. Stropkaj said.

Mr. Mizikar added, "“I am very excited and honored to get this opportunity to work with the professional staff at Myrtle Ave Elementary, and the Castle Shannon Community as a whole, to help make this school and its children shine.

I look forward to working with, and learning from the current administration, in this new educational adventure, " he added."

Mr. Mizikar earned both his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Masters in Education (Administration) from California University of Pennsylvania. He is married with three children.
