Aiken Elementary Receives $500 Grant to Benefit School Garden

Ronald McDonald visits Aiken Elementary

Aiken Elementary School recently received a $500 grant from the McDonalds Make Activities Count (MAC) program. The funds will be used to support Aiken's garden and will be used towards the purchase of a grow light system, which will help jump start the growing process. Students will now be able to see the entire life cycle of the fruits, vegetables and plants in the garden- seed to plant to garden to table - during the school year.

Last year, under the leadership of physical education teacher Jenn Watenpool, Aiken Elementary received the garden as a donation from FedEx through the American Heart Association's "Teaching Gardens" program.

As part of the grant presentation, students were treated to a visit from Ronald McDonald and an assembly on bullying and doing good deeds for others.
