Fifth Grade Students Face Off in Battle of the Books

An annual tradition for Keystone Oaks elementary students, the popular “Battle of the Books” was held on Wednesday, March 9th. Organized by the District’s librarians and the three community libraries – the “Battle of the Books” encourages students to expand their reading horizons, work as a team, and of course, have fun! In the months leading up to the competition, students form teams, choose team names and design t-shirts and read two books per team members.

At the “Battle of the Books,” students participate in three rounds of questions and must also correctly spell the last name of the author for each book. Although everyone who participates is a winner, this year’s winners from each building were:



Starbooks
(Aiken Elementary): Katie O'Brien, Bella Matthews, Lucy Dabat, Mara Alcantara, and Layla McGrogan. Manager: Meghan O'Brien






Rocket Readers
(Dormont Elementary): Jane Harvey, Anika Loper, Isabel Schwartz, Max Fullard and Austin Hamilton. Manager: Jill Harvey





Paris Page Turners
(Myrtle Elementary): Reagan Shartle, Tia White, Gianna DiGiacomo, Kamryn Botwright and Linda Morales. Manager: Miss Harke
