Dormont 5th Grade STEAM Classes Celebrate International Dot Day

5th grade students at Dormont Elementary School made their mark on the world during their celebration of International Dot Day in Tuesday's STEAM classes.

Students worked in groups to build a Rube Goldberg machine that caused a marker to make a dot on a piece of paper. Students used cardboard, PVC pipe, marbles, dominoes, golf balls, string, good 'ol duct tape, and other materials to make their machines work.

International Dot Day is a celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration that began when a teacher read Peter H. Reynolds’ book "The Dot," which tells the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark." Keystone Oaks students also read the book during their library classes this week.
