Why is Keystone Oaks implementing a Career Plan & Portfolio requirement?
The Career Plan & Portfolio is a requirement for all school districts under the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The goal, according to PDE, is to “help ensure that all students in Pennsylvania are on track for meaningful postsecondary engagement and success.”
School districts will be required to report students’ career exploration, preparation and readiness to the Department of Education.
What are students required to do as part of the Career Plan & Portfolio requirement?
The Department of Education is in the process of releasing guidelines to school districts and Keystone Oaks is working on its plan. Details and requirements will be released at the start of the 2018-2019 school year and a meeting will be held for parents/guardians.
Who will be responsible for securing a placement site for the job shadowing / internship requirement?
Just like the community service requirement, it is ultimately the student’s responsibility to ensure that all requirements are fulfilled. However, Keystone Oaks will have a Community Service and Career Readiness Advisor available to assist students.
Will students receive credit for completing the Career Plan & Portfolio?
Students who complete the requirements will receive 0.5 credit. The Career Plan & Portfolio is required for graduation.
